Adopting district policies isn't as described in letter

Dear Ms. Diana Menzing, I would like to believe that your letter to the editor dated Wednesday, Oct. 24, is simply just incorrect and not an intentional misrepresentation of my actions on a specific policy. So, I am certain you will be happy to learn that you are simply inaccurate about how adopting policies work and therefore, after reading this you will regret your attempt to thwart Mr. Michalik's bid for school board and retract your accusation. Mr. Michalik is a good man and he will accept your apology when you are ready.Fact: The policy was drafted by the state school board association for all districts to use in order to be in a mandated compliance.

Fact: This policy was an Obama Federal mandate and all federal money was to be withheld from any state that didn't adopt the policy. Individual districts would also be heftily fined.

Fact: In order to adopt, or not adopt a policy, there must be three readings. The first two readings simply serve as a way to allow the board to consider and tweak the verbiage. Just because you move in favor of a policy for procedural purposes does Not mean you will ultimately support it! Once we finally heard from the governor/attorney general's office we were able to adopt a policy for a students' access to private restroom use.

i.e. teachers' lounge.

All action surrounding this policy was to stay in compliance. I take no offense to people disagreeing with how I voted on an issue. I did my best to represent everyone. My feelings about this particular policy were made quite clear at the time.

I opposed it.

I'm sorry you didn't know this, because all you had to do was ask! Your letter is riddled with other false information. Superintendents (Dr. Baker) have nothing to do with board member travel. Also, no one is paying higher taxes! Perhaps the new board will explain the tax swap to you yet again!

I'm sorry my first letter to you, via Facebook, brought no response. I'm asking again (using your preferred method of communication) in this very condensed version for you to do the right thing.

God is watching.

KAREN MICHALIK
