State disaster office cancels flood recovery meeting in Sumter

The South Carolina Disaster Recovery Office has cancelled a town hall meeting originally scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Patriot Hall, 135 Haynsworth Street.

State officials scheduled the meeting after being notified of $96 million in federal disaster grants which will be available to qualifying resident in parts of South Carolina affected by the October 2015 floods.

“Local officials told us they could help us get the information out if we would give them more time,” said Beth Parks, public information director for SCDRO.

Parks said SCDRO employees would be at Patriot Hall tonight, but would only be handing out brochures.

The South Carolina Disaster Recovery meeting, previously scheduled for tonight in Sumter, has been rescheduled to Monday, July 11 at Patriot Hall, 135 Haynsworth Street, at 6 p.m..

Residents are encouraged to attend and discuss with state officials how the funding should be disbursed.
