Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office and Sumter County Sheriff's Office deputies apprehended Asaad Jamal McNeil, wanted in connection with the 2016 shooting death of a 17-year-old man, in Clarendon County on Wednesday evening.

McNeil is a suspect in the death of Jaquell Dinkins who was shot in the back while fleeing a house in the 200 block of Apollo Street in Wedgefield on Sept. 14, 2016.

According to a news release from Sumter County Sheriff's Office, the occupants of the residence attempted to pull the victim and two other men into the house after they knocked on the door. As Dinkins and the other men ran away, shots were fired from the house and Dinkins was shot.

In a previous statement, Sumter County Sheriff Anthony Dennis said the house has been under investigation in the past for illegal drug activity.

McNeil is charged with murder; two counts of attempted murder; armed robbery; and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

McNeil was transported to Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center where he is awaiting bond.

Sheriff Dennis said more arrests are possible.
