Man charged with kidnapping, assault of his wife

Sumter County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 47-year-old man on Saturday after he reportedly kidnapped and assaulted his wife on Saturday.

According to a news release from the sheriff’s office, Daniel Todd Weatherford, of 2345 Killdee Drive, Sumter, is charged with kidnapping and aggravated assault after he prevented his wife from leaving the house and held a saw blade to her throat and threatened to kill her.

Responding deputies arrived at the residence about 3:30 p.m. on Saturday and found the victim and Weatherford in the yard. The victim was crying and visibly upset, according to the release.

Weatherford admitted to calling his wife a name other than her own before holding the blade to her throat and threatening to kill her.
On the way to Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center, Weatherford complained of stomach pains and was treated at Palmetto Health Tuomey before being taken to jail.
