18- and 16-year-old arrested in connection with attempted robbery

According to a news release from Sumter Police Department, a 37-year-old was preparing to make a delivery at Waffle House, 1350 Broad St., at about 6 a.m. Thursday.

While in the parking lot, he noticed an individual walk past and heard someone enter the delivery truck. The release states the alleged robber pointed a gun at the victim and demanded money before the two began a brief scuffle. The suspect fled on foot before getting into a nearby vehicle and leaving.

No money or goods were taken during the attempted robbery.

Later Thursday afternoon, officers located the vehicle described in the incident before locating the suspects. The firearm used in the incident was also located.

Donta Malik Dowe, 18, of 4100 Broad St., Lot 114, is charged with attempted armed robbery and faces an additional charge of possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

A 16-year-old, whose name is not being released because of her age, is charged with accessory after the fact and was taken to a state Department of Juvenile Justice facility.
